About Us

the Breath Sri Lanka is a Sri Lankan environmental organization founded by a group of young individuals dedicated to the protection of the environment. It is the contention of the present study that environmental conservation should not be regarded as a mere civic duty, but rather as one of the most profound expressions of compassion and contribution that humanity can offer to life.

The term “breath” is imbued with profound significance. It is a metaphor for the air we breathe, the rhythmic movement of the Earth, and the silent bond between humanity and nature. The act of respiration is integral to sustaining life on the planet, with the environment providing a foundation for all living beings. The intricate interconnection between forests, oceans, and wildlife and human existence is well-documented.

The impetus for establishing the Breath Sri Lanka was derived from two sources:

first, a profound affection for Sri Lanka’s natural splendor, encompassing its forests, rivers, oceans and wildlife; and second, a keen awareness of the responsibility to safeguard these natural assets. In the context of mounting environmental challenges, including climate change, deforestation, and pollution, The Breath serves as a vocal advocate for nature and its needs. It is the role of the organization to serve as the representative voice for forests, rivers and the numerous living beings that are unable to speak for themselves.

The organization’s mission is threefold: firstly, to support environmental education; secondly, to initiate sustainable projects; and thirdly, to empower community-led action to create meaningful change. Consequently, the organizational efforts of the institution are centred on the following areas:

The primary objective is the mitigation of deforestation and the promotion of reforestation.

The preservation of wildlife and natural habitats is of paramount importance.

The objective is twofold: firstly, to minimize environmental pollution and, secondly, to improve waste management.

The objective of this initiative is to empower youth and local communities through environmental awareness.

The organization lends its backing to innovative solutions that contribute to a sustainable future.

It is the belief of the present author that every human action has the capacity to build a future in which the bond between humanity and nature is preserved. The act of planting a tree, rescuing an animal, or inspiring a child to protect the Earth is indicative of a paradigm shift towards a future that is environmentally sustainable. Each individual action, no matter how seemingly insignificant, contributes to a greater whole and represents a step closer to the future envisioned.
